Rocky Statue Replica in Italy

For a limited time, Italian fans of Rocky Balboa will have a chance to see the Italian Stallion up close in Tuscany.

This November marks the 40th anniversary of the original Rocky, and many TV networks all over the world plan to hold Rocky movie marathons. As a nod to Rocky’s 40th, Sky Cinema HD has created what it describes as a “faithful” reproduction of A. Thomas Schomberg’s iconic Rocky Statue to promote its November airing of the entire Rocky series on TV.

The statue can be visited in the city of Lucca in the Piazza San Michele from October 28 until November 1, 2016. (Sylvester Stallone’s grandparents originated in Southern Italy in the coastal city of Bari, nearly 500 miles from Lucca.)

Sky’s Rocky statue appears in conjunction with Sky Cinema’s appearance at the Lucca Comics & Games 2016, the largest comics festival in Europe.

If you aren’t able to travel to Philadelphia, PA to visit the original Rocky Statue, located at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, this alternate version will make a great substitute. Fans are welcomed to take photos with the statue which is significantly scaled down in size. The original bronze statue stands an imposing 8’6″ tall, while Sky’s statue is roughly life-sized and is standing on a pedestal in the center of the city square.

While he visits Italy occasionally for personal holidays with his family (like the time he went shoe shopping in Rome with his wife, Jennifer Flavin in 2012), Sly has also toured his ancestral home for promotional purposes. Stallone was last reported in Italy on official Rocky business back in January of 2007. Sly visited the Piazza di Spagna in Rome to promote Rocky Balboa.

The Rocky series – including Creed – plays on Sky Cinema HD in Italy from November 11-20.
