TALIA SHIRE AND SONS ATTEND TRIBECA FILM FESTIVAL
Talia Shire‘s finally made another film, this time teamed on screen with her two sons, actors Jason and Robert Schwartzman.
Shire plays Victoria, mother of the lead character (Johnny Simmons), who is a pianist involved in a relationship with an older woman. The film – titled “Dreamland” – is directed by Shire’s youngest son, 33 year old Robert, most famous for his role in “The Princess Diaries” and as lead singer of the band Rooney. Robert follows in his famous family’s cinema dynasty in his directorial debut; his uncle, Talia’s brother, is legendary filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola.
On the same day that Sylvester Stallone was featured on NBC’s Today Show promoting his new TV series “Strong”, Talia visited Today’s New York studio at Rockefeller Center and stood behind the cameras as her two sons were interviewed about “Dreamland” and Rooney gave a live musical performance.
“Dreamland” premiered on Thursday at the Tribeca Film Festival and Talia and her sons attended and participated in a Q&A event following the screening. When asked about whether she’d seen Sylvester Stallone’s performance in 2015’s Creed, Talia responded:
“I liked the last [movie, Creed]. I gotta tell you, I thought Sylvester was brilliant. Really, really just brilliant. To make it short and sweet, he was great.”
Admittedly nervous to be directed by her son, Talia revealed that joining the cast wasn’t easy.
“I wasn’t sure. My role came at sort of the end,” she explained. “The mother was either going to be a great pain or she was going to be really kind of a sensitive woman, so when we got to my part in the piece, Robert was terrific and wrote a very nurturing piece of dialogue. He was very kind to me. I was very nervous!”
