British WBC cruiserweight Tony Bellew is experiencing a bit of life-imitating-art as he gears up for his next big fight on May 29, 2016.
Bellew, who played the boxing villain “Pretty” Ricky Conlan in 2015’s Creed is scheduled to fight for the world championship at England’s Goodison Park, which was also featured in Creed as the scene of Adonis’ match against Conlan. Bellew will be pitted against Congolese fighter Ilunga Makabu, considered one of the best prospects in the cruiserweight division.
In an interview this week, Bellew expressed hope in having former Creed castmates – including Sylvester Stallone, Michael B. Jordan and Ryan Coogler – attend his fight at ringside.
“We will have to wait and see,” Bellew said of Stallone. “I’ll talk to him and speak to the other guys who were part of the movie. Hopefully, they can make it but they are extremely busy people with busy schedules. I hope they can make it and I’ll be speaking to them in the coming days.
“It would be fantastic to have Sly over and MBJ (Michael B. Jordan), the director Ryan Coogler and that, but everything is about time constraints to their work as over in Hollywood they don’t stop.”
