STALLONE ON ROCKY: “IT’S MY FAVORITE CHARACTER.”
The cast of Ryan Coogler’s Creed sat down with Good Morning America on the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art to chat about the new hit film. In the film’s opening five days, it clocked in at an impressive $42 million and is naturally especially popular in the City of Brotherly Love, where all seven Rocky films in the series have been set. Indeed, Philly has always been as much a part of the Rocky series as Rocky himself.
How does it feel being back playing Rocky Balboa for a seventh time?
Sylvester Stallone: “Seventh time is the charm. It’s my favorite character. I would love to play it every day for the rest of my life.”
Were you a fan of Rocky growing up?
Michael B. Jordan: “Yeah, for sure. I had a chance to fall in love with Rocky all over again when you have a chance to watch ’em back to back to back to back in preparation for this film. To see him literally age in front of my eyes, it’s kinda cool.”
What drives Adonis’ character?
Jordan: “What drives him is just trying to figure out who he is, to see if he’s got what it takes to be anybody that’s anywhere close to his father [Apollo Creed].”
What drives Bianca (Adonis’ girlfriend)?
Tessa Thompson: “I think she has her own inner determination, which is what she finds attractive about Adonis, and she shares it.”
