Seen in: Rocky, Rocky V
“Close the door, you’re lettin’ all the heat out.”
This unassuming neighborhood features the actual home which was used as the front for Adrian and Paulie’s house in the original Rocky and later as the home which the entire Balboa family shared in Rocky V.
The house is located in the Kensington neighborhood of Philadelphia and was built in 1935. It’s here that Rocky asks Adrian on their first date to go ice skating, and Paulie throws the turkey leg from Adrian’s Thanksgiving dinner into the alley.
When Paulie loses Rocky’s fortune in Rocky V, the Balboas are forced to move in with Paulie at this house. Rocky 5 shows us more of the fictional home’s kitchen and basement, where Rocky keeps his boxing memorabilia and body bag.
A 2013 report from a visitor indicates that some extreme renovations have been made to the house’s exterior including a new vinyl siding.
Sadly, this has made the exterior of Paulie’s house nearly unrecognizable.
Robert Plazek’s Travel Tip: “As of 2009, this street is quiet and you could hear a pin drop.
As with the location for Rocky’s apartment, we felt a little unwelcome by some onlookers. Be quick and respectful here. The house looks quite different today.”
