“I know it’s something that’s gonna happen.”
Creed star Michael B. Jordan revealed a tantalizing bit of inside information about Creed 2 at Comic-Con 2016.
The actor attended the festival in late July, meeting with fans and promoting his upcoming Marvel movie “Black Panther” in which he’s teamed again with director Ryan Coogler.
Collider’s Steven Weintraub spoke with Jordan backstage about the rumored Creed sequel, which was first buzzed about early this year by Rocky’s longtime producer, Irwin Winkler.
When will Creed 2 begin production?
“I’m not sure yet,” Jordan told Weintraub, despite Winkler’s hopes that the film would be in pre-production in Spring, 2016 and in theatres by late 2017. With creator / director Ryan Coogler completely tied down with the “Black Panther” project, it’s unlikely he’ll be freed to work on Creed 2 anytime this year.
“I’m in this world, so I know it’s something that’s gonna happen,” Jordan says of the Creed movie sequel. “I’m not sure exactly when, but it’s something that we are talking about and thinking about because it’s such an important story.”
While the first Creed has the muscles to stand alone, fans of the Rocky spinoff are anxious to follow the storyline of the new characters created by Ryan Coogler. Sly Stallone himself hinted months ago that story ideas for a sequel were in the works, including a potential flashback sequence featuring Rocky and Apollo Creed. Others close to the production intimated that a Creed 2 and Creed 3 were definite possibilities down the pipeline.
Less than two weeks after making these statements, MBJ was spotted lunching in Beverly Hills with Sylvester Stallone. Both Creed stars carried notebooks out of the restaurant … hopefully notebooks filled with Creed 2 concepts!
